Here’s the lowdown on Amsterdam. Everyone knows one thing about Amsterdam…The Red Light District. I know, you’re young and ready to see it for yourself, go to a couple of coffee shops and really see what all of the fuss is all about. But here’s the thing, there is a lot more to Amsterdam than the red light district. The historic Vondelpark park, for example; imagine one of the most beautiful parks where you can picnic with locals and experience some of the best people watching in the city. If you are looking for a little bit more than that, you can head on over to the canals and adventure throughout this water-based city.

The coolest thing about Lines of Latitude trips is the fact that we go on bike tours in most of the cities we go to and Amsterdam is no exception of course. What makes biking in Amsterdam even cooler is that most locals bike around. Imagine streets full of bikes, whizzing by. Their are bicycle lanes around amsterdam that stretch around the whole city. So let’s grab a bike and go riding!

You are stuck on a corner in Paris with no concept of where you are in relation to the map you are staring at awkwardly. As Parisians walk by you with their noses turned up, you and your friends are aching in despair. At this point it seems as if every turn you make is wrong. This is inevitable in any city you are not used to, so how do you guard against it, you may ask? Well the answer is quite simple, say “excuse moi,” (gotta start off in the local language!) and if they don’t speak English then point to where you want to go on the map. Chances are someone will help you out with figuring out where you need to be or what direction you need to start heading in. If they don’t help you out or were rude, well it’s no skin off your back, just ask the next man or woman walking by afterwards. You’re sure to find someone helpful.

Remember, if you are lost from your group and don’t know where you’re going, remain the last meeting spot your group agreed on so that they can go back and find you.

Lines of Latitude is looking to have a stress-free trip, some of the biggest stresses while traveling is getting lost. Therefore just ask a local and we will get to the Moulin Rouge in no time!

This year’s trip Deux Mille Douze will start out in Prague, one of coolest city’s in the world. So why exactly would I make such a bold statement? Not only is it the cobblestone streets, but the city’s history is brimming with a bohemian focus. Maybe it’s the history of corrupt governments, artistic revolutions or student protests, whatever it is, Prague is rich in music, art and…well, some of the best beer in the world. If you stay away from the tourist centers on one of your days out, you will discover how delightful the Czech people are.

Remember that some of the coolest things are not in your guide. The best moments on these trips are discovering bohemian bagel, walking into a five story club, meeting lively Czechs on the street, and watching lively street performers. Of course if you are feeling at all in a tourist mood, you have to check out the lovely 9th century castle and have a picnic in one of the many parks. Prague has been described as a magical city, full of bridges, churches, gold domes and everything in between. The richness of the art and culture makes Prague the first stop on our trip and definitely one of our most memorable

Be sure to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter. Let’s go on one of the most memorable European adventures ever! We cost less than all the other student tours and we let you plan what you want to do…because well, you are an adult! If you are interested in this year’s trip, Click Here to apply!

Parks, usually boring right? I mean why would you go all the way across the world to sit on a blanket in a park. You can do that on Temescal any day of the week. Well, let me be the one to tell you, Parc Guell is…a park on steroids. Not steroids, but something pretty close… it is magical! Imagine Dr Seuss like architecture, stunning verandas of Barcelona, and cool lookout points you have to climb up…carefully.

You would never see a park this modern in the US! The park is incredibly colorful and full of interesting modern statues and architecture. With trails and interesting points to stop and marvel at, this is not your grandma’s neighborhood park. This garden-like city was created by Antonio Gaudi, the guy who helped shape the cool vibe that Barcelona has today.

Let’s grab some Pan con Tomate, (rustic Catalan bread smothered in tomatoes, olive oil and garlic…mmmm) and spend a day in the park, exploring, listening to live music and marveling at all the beautiful and colorful structures that make up Parc Guell. Click here to view the route from your hostel to Parc Guell!

Here’s a bit of a laugh for you all. One of the funniest street performers we may get to see at Parc Guell!
